This is one of those shots that might not be any good, but which I like for some undefined reason. I don’t know if it’s something in the arrangement of the goalposts, or perhaps the small football-playing figures, or just some random alignment of things that just switches something on in my brain. I have similar feelings about this shot that I took ona digital camera a few years back. No-one else really seems to say much about them, so I guess it’s just me.
It’s a conversion to black and white (although the colour version had its own charm too).
Pentax P30T, Rikenon 50mm f/2 & Kodak Colorplus.

Think the attraction here is the white goal frames and pitch lines against the darker tones.

I think you’re right – to a degree at least. The contrast caused by the b&w conversion has made the whites pop in the scene. There’s something else though for me, and I can’t define it. Maybe it’s a forgotten memory or something.

Some of my favourite pictures are the ones that have no obvious merit but that I just like for unknown and perhaps inexplicable reasons. I used to worry about this – now I don’t. For my own pictures, if I like it, it’s good.
I can see why you like this one – for me it’s the lines, angles and layers that combine so pleasingly.
